DLP4500: DLP 4500 EVM | External Trigger Input not producing a pattern start

Part Number: DLP4500

I would be most grateful for any help with this problem.

We have a DLP 4500 evm,  and we have been successfully using the Trigger Output 1 on J14 to synch our camera acquisitions in step with the DLP patterns displayed from flash.

However, we would now like to have a "play once" pattern triggered by a signal going from low to high (3.3V) on Pin 2 of J11, i.e trigger input 1.

Pin 1 is confirmed by measurement as supplied with 3.3V, as one would expect with the Jumper placement.

That 3.3V is switched to produce the trigger signal on Pin2, relative to ground taken from Pin 3 of J11.

When setting up the flash pattern, we modify the previously working pattern by first setting it as "play once". When send and validated, it does indeed play once in response to the "Play" button in the GUI.

The next modification is to set "External Positive" in the trigger drop down dialog located in the pattern sequence tab, next to the color drop down.

The trigger input tab is left as default. The pattern is then sent with the "Send" button, and it also validates correctly.

However, applying a 3.3V pulse to Pin 2 of J11 does not cause the pattern to play.  The play button will cause it to play once, and then it has to be validated again before the next "play", and so on.

Have we left out something important? Is the system designed to allow you to play a pattern once, in response to a single trigger input?

Thanks in Advance

  • Hi Tony,

Welcome to E2E Forums! May I know which firmware and GUI version you are using?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Hirak.
  • Hi Hirak,

    GUI: LightCrafter4500 V 3.1.0
    Firmware: DLPR350PROM_v3.1.0.bin

I take it that for every FW release, there is a matching GUI release?
    Thanks
  • Hi Hirak,

Just a thought: Is there any way you could send us a sample solution file that you have set up and can confirm working with trigger inputs, that we could test and work from please?

    Regards,

    Anthony

  • Hirak,

i just realized that play must be pressed before the evm will respond to the trigger signal, so that is working fine.

One last question. The gui implies that I can place a trigger before the first image in my pattern is displayed.

In reality, the first pattern is displayed whilst waiting for the trigger. The trigger causes the second patterns to be displayed.

Obviously I can put in a sacrificial blank screen, but I was wondering if there was a way to make it so that pattern one will not be displayed until the trigger is received - i.e initial state is blank rather than first pattern. Clear DMD after exposure does not do the trick.

    Thanks,
    Anthony
  • Hi,
For now I think adding another black pattern should be easier. We will test and get back to you next week. Thanks & Regards,
    Hirak.
  • Hi,

Whilst we are able to start a pattern sequence using trigger 1, we don't seem to be able to start a pattern using trigger 2 (pin 5) - either patter sequence of variable sequence.

Is there something additional we must do, for example configure GPIO? I see Pin 5 populates the GPIO drop downs.

    Regards,

    Anthony

  • Hi Anthony,

Trig-1in is used to advance to the next pattern in the sequence. Whereas trig-2in is used to start and pause the pattern sequence. If you have configured external trig-1in for your pattern sequence, you need to issue trigger on trig-1in while keeping the trig-2in asserted to successfully advance to the next pattern. Kindly consult section 2.4.3.2 on the LCR4500 User Guide for better understanding the functions of the triggers.

    Hope this resolves your issue,

    Thanks & Regards,
    Hirak.

  • Hi Anthony,

Do you still need the answer to your question? If not I'll be closing this thread due to inactivity. You can reopen if required.
Thanks for your interest in DLP Technology.
