Depth mapping using DLP technology

Hello,

We are working on a research project condition assessment of bridges. As a part of the project we are planning to evaluate different methods for depth mapping of cracks on concrete and asphalt surface. We have designed a setup for depth mapping of surface using structured light technology (Intel RealSense), ToF technology (Microsoft Kinect 2), and passive stereo.

Is there any TI DLP technology based product or kit which we can use that for depth mapping?

Thank you.

  • Hello Pouria,

Welcome to the DLP section of the TI-E2E community.

There are indeed TI DLP based structured light system that can be used for depth mapping. It sounds like you are looking for off-the-shelf solutions to evaluate.

The challenges you face will likely apply to all of them -- depth of cracks relative to width, which will limit the ability to "see" into narrow cracks. The spatial resolution in X & Y for the ToF technology will also be a challenge.

What is the resolution (X, Y, & Z) that you need? This will determine suggestions of offerings that will meet your needs.
