DLP4500: DLP4500AFQE

Part Number: DLP4500

I am making my own DMD 4500 based UV projector

What are design considerations while the selection of integrator Rod,

whats are practical differences between hollow reflecting light pipe and solid glass integrator.

what advantages does tapered light pipe provide?

How do I select an optimum light pipe for my application?

  • Hello Tanmay,

What wavelength of UV light are you looking at using?

    Thanks,
    Kyle

  • Hi Tanmay,

Kindly find below the answers to your questions:

    1. What are design considerations while the selection of integrator Rod?

A> There would be different considerations from different design constraints, but a major one would be coupling efficiency.

    2. Whats are practical differences between hollow reflecting light pipe and solid glass integrator?

A> Hollow integrator would be shorter and cheaper, while solid one could be durable with higher efficiency

    3. What advantages does tapered light pipe provide??

A> It provides transition of image size and light angle from pipe entrance to its exit. It could enable better light coupling among light source, DMD and projection lens.

    4. How do I select an optimum light pipe for my application?

A> The best way to do this is to understand your own design constraints. Evaluate a few light pipe candidates. Select or optimize one based on the trade-offs made.

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks & Regards,

    Hirak.

  • Thank You for the answer,

What are trade offs for tapered light pipes, could you provide me some literature or reading material for light pipe selection, if I use tapered light pipes does it mean that the relay lenses required for transmitting light from light pipe to DMD are eliminated.

  • Can Tapered light pipes be used with a parabolic concentrator?

LEDs have a divergence angle of 90 degrees but light pipes accept 60 degrees,

I am designing something like LED coupled to a parabolic concentrator which is coupled to tapered light pipe. Will this system work?

  • Hi Tanmay,

Kindly find the answers to your queries below:

    1. What are trade offs for tapered light pipes, could you provide me some literature or reading material for light pipe selection
A> You can refer to this document.

    2. if I use tapered light pipes does it mean that the relay lenses required for transmitting light from light pipe to DMD are eliminated?

A> No for most cases. In very rare cases that efficiency is completely not a concern, it is possible.

    3. Can Tapered light pipes be used with a parabolic concentrator?

    A> Yes.

    4. LEDs have a divergence angle of 90 degrees but light pipes accept 60 degrees, I am designing something like LED coupled to a parabolic concentrator which is coupled to tapered light pipe. Will this system work?

A> It will work, meaning some light can be coupled to the tunnel, but usually not efficient. A common coupling optics can be seen on Slide 3 of above link.
