编译/ DLP6500FYE:Why is the number of point clouds acquired by the DLP6500 not much?

Part Number: DLP6500FYE

Tool/software: TI C/C++ Compiler

I have a question, after I completed the steps set in DLP_LightCrafter_6500_3D_Scan_Application.exe,
1. There are not many point clouds for scanning objects. What is the reason for this?
2, then I scanned the plane and found that the plane point cloud has a curved arc. In addition to the error caused by the calibration, what other reasons may cause this situation?
Thank you for your patience!

  • Hi,

Welcome to DLP section of TI E2E community. I will get back to you within  a day or two.

  • Hello User,

Typically issues with calibration flatness and the number of points in a scanned point cloud are a result of insufficient contrast in the scanned images.  Both during calibration and the object scan.  The result can be an unacceptable amount of curvature in the z-calibration (you can never completely eliminate it, but can compensate with a look up table.

It can also be cause by challenging surfaces on the object being scanned (i.e. very shiny, very dark, etc . . . )

Please try running the calibration with various iris / gain settings and see if you can get a flatter calibration and better scans.  (this changes the thresholding in the point cloud algorithm which can result in too few points (sparse point cloud) or too many points (noisy point cloud).

  • Dear Fizix

Thank you ! I will try it again. I have another two questions.

Firstly, I first follow the steps in DLP_LightCrafter_6500_3D_Scan_Application.exe on the desktop. After completing step 8 and after selecting the recommended 0, the flashback phenomenon of DLP_LightCrafter_6500_3D_Scan_Application.exe is appeared, but the phenomenon of replacing the laptop does not exist, I  really want to know the reason for this problem, please give me some  suggestions, thank you very much!

Secondly, When I following the steps in Building the DLP ALC SDK in Section 8 of the dlpu042.pdf file, Cmake always has the following problems:

            Using Win32 for window creation

           Using WGL for context creation

              CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:344 (file):
              file COPY cannot find "D:/Sortware/pointgreySDK/bin/FlyCapture2_C.dll".

             Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!

              See also "D:/Sortware/DLP-SDK/DLP-ALC-LIGHTCRAFTER-SDK-bld/CMakeFiles/CMakeOutput.log".

In addition ,can you offer me pointgrey SDK in 2.11.3.164 version?

    sincerely

    candyfloss

  • Hello Candyfloss,

Unfortunately we cannot redistribute the PointGrey (now owned by FLIR) SDK since it is their IP.  However, I believe you should be able to get the SDK from them - including older versions.  If you cannot get it from their website, then call them, they are usually pretty helpful.

Could you give more detail about what you meant in your post when you said, so that I can better assist:

". . . the flashback phenomenon of DLP_LightCrafter_6500_3D_Scan_Application.exe is appeared, but the phenomenon of replacing the laptop does not exist, . . ."
