DLP3000-C300REF: DLP3000 LightCrafter EVM not detected by computer, making noise on powering and not booting completely

I am presently using a DLP3000 LightCrafter EVM without the Light Engine(removed after buying since I use the mirror array directly with a laser and has been working well for several years) which upon connecting to the power supply makes a high-frequency noise and is not being recognized by computers with the Windows 10, 7 and XP Operating System - even after the correct drivers are installed. As of now, the micromirror array shows the 2 splash screens of the logo and the chipset in different angles, along with the progress bar which stops just before it reaches the ending. The LED next to the DM365 lights up green, as opposed to the flashing red and green. The other LED lights up green as well.

I have tried booting via SD card, however, I presently only have a SanDisk 16GB card available. The button on the driver board(lower board) also seems to be unresponsive most of the time.

Furthermore, I have tried following the procedure mentioned in the FAQ at the following link: https://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp/f/94/t/623283 . However, none of the computers I tried with have been able to recognize the DLP and so as mentioned in Step 4, I don't think incorrect drivers are being installed and I have not been able to get the "USB serial device" under the "Ports" section in the device manager.

Feedback regarding what could be done to fix the above issues would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Thanks for your interest in our DLP technology.

It sounds like you previously had success using your modified EVM without the light engine. Can you explain when you started encountering issues? Did you further modify the system or was the apparent failure of the system "sudden"?

Hi Jasvith,

From the problem description it is clear that the DM365 is failing to complete the boot sequence. This leads to not recognizing the USB port on the EVM hardware. Regarding the SD card boot there is technical advisory that you need to follow http://www.ti.com/lit/er/dlpt003/dlpt003.pdf only a specific version & size of SD cards supported. That too it is on old windows OS. Since it worked for several years i am presuming it served it purpose, in the mean time i recommend you to look at the latest DLP3710 and DLP4710 here http://www.ti.com/dlp-chip/advanced-light-control/products.html

Dear Philippe,

Thank you for your response. Our lab had used the EVM for several years previously followed by a period of time when we did not use it. I started using it again last week and it has been behaving as described above since the first time I powered it up.

No, we did not further modify the system and so I think the apparent failure of the system can be described as "sudden".

We understand the "sudden" failure and going by the problem description you would need to try the updating the DM365 f/w through SD card, this is discussed in the above response. This is the last option to review the system.

Thank you for the response.

We have purchased a new SD card which was described to be working in one of the forums. However, the DMD still seems to be unable to either boot or get flashed from the new SD card.

Any other suggestions regarding what could be done to get the DMD to work again would be appreciated.

Hi Jasvith,

There is small switch near the SDcard this must be switched other way for it to boot from the SD card, have you done that?

Hi Sanjeev,

Yes, I understand that there is a difference in the position of the switch to boot or flash from the SD card. I had changed it to the position facing the SD card slot while working with the SD card.

Hi Jasvith,

Okay, there is 3.3mm RS232 jack on the EVM, just connect it and see what error message it is printing. If you are not able to upgrade or update firmware then not much can be done. Attach the log if you are able to get it.
