Connection between DLPC200(DMD controller) and DLP5500(DMD chip)

To align DMD to collimated laser beam, I need to rotate and title DMD chip in the very fine manner.

So I plan to put DMD chip on some mount, but to do that, I need  to make a connection between DMD chip and DMD controller by some cable.

Is that possible for the interface used in connection between controller and chip?

Thank you.

  • Hello Mooseok,

I want to make sure I understand well your intended setup before answering your question.  Are you looking to remove the DMD and controlled board from the Light Commander and mount them on an optical bench to illuminate with laser beam?

  • Hello Raul,

    Thank you for a reply.

The scheme you mentioned is right. I've already pulled out the DMD chip, controller board and power supply from Light Commander and confirmed that DMD chip is properly controlled by software provided with Light Commandar.

But, in this scheme, DMD chip is only hung on the DMD controller by a LVDS bus (the pin number and size seems different, but basically, it looks like the interface used in computer memory). So, the mechanically, DMD chip is so unstable. And, even if it is stable,  I need to put whole DMD controller board on some mount (for finely rotate/tilt DMD chip) to align DMD chip to laser. Actually, I want on-state of each mirror in DMD chip to be normal to colliminated laser beam which parallel to the ground.

So, in other words, for putting DMD chip on a mount that can rotate/tilt DMD chip in really fine manner, I need to make the connection betwen DMD chip and DMD board be estabilished by enoughly long cable. I've founded some company making customized LVDS cable. But, I still have no idea whether any kinda LVDS cable which have same physical size and pin number is working for the DMD chip/controller board or there needs some specific characterization for the cable.

    Thanks,

    Mooseok

  • Mooseok,

Thank you for the description, I understand your setup better now.  I recommend contacting LogicPD (manufacturer of the Light Commander) to inquire about the availability of different LVDS cables.  The ones used in the kit are custom made, and Logic should be able to tell you if they have additional ones or how to get them.

    Regards,

    Raul

  • Hi, Im looking to control the mirrors on DMD to produce greyscale fringe patterns through written code, but is that what you are accomplishing?

If so, could you tell me the basics of achieving it?

    Thank you,
