3D darktime signal format

Hi Everybody,

I have a question. What is the TTL signal structure of 3D darktime SYNC for DCI Projectors ?

3D signal out is ?? Hz Square wave (%50 duty cycle) but I can not find darktime signal format. Could you help me about darktime signal format ?

Thanks ..

  • Ufuk,

There is no "darktime signal".  There is a 3D Output Reference that indicates which eye is displayed, with dark time.  A "high" value generally means "left", although there is often a control in the projector manufacturer's software that allows this to be inverted.  The 3D Output Reference changes at the start of the dark time.  It roughly looks like this:

There are often controls in the projector manufacturer software to set the amount of dark time and output reference delay needed for a particular 3D system.

This is generally what is implemented for the Texas Instruments DLP Cinema(R) Series 2 system.

The voltages/currents supported by the 3D output reference may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer (or projector to projector).  The 3D controls available may also vary.  There may be some models that do not (or cannot) support changing the dark time and/or the reference delay.

I am not able to comment on the specific details of any particular manufacturer's product.  You will need to refer to the manufacturer's documentation to determine the specific details for a particular projector.

  • Hi Gary,

Thank you so much for your valuable descriptions. Now I'll write my own code and try. I will let you know when my tests are over.

    Is this drawing correct ?

  • Ufuk,

The duty cycle should be 50%.  Assuming you have a 120Hz output (60 Hz eye pairs), you should see edges on the 3D Output Reference every 8333.333us.
