DLPC900: Input Port Usage

Part Number: DLPC900
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC350, DLP4500

Dear, we are migrating from DLPC350/DLP4500 to DLPC900/DLP6500. Keeping the same Input, so we can use DLPC900 only in Single Pixel mode.

I see the settings in register in order to set this up, my question is:

Do I have to tie the inputs ( P2_A/B/C_(0..9) )of the unused input port to GND?

Thanks

Ivica

  • Hi Ivica,

You can keep the inputs floating for port 2 - just that you need to tristate the input using Input source commands(Refer section 2.3.3 in programmer's guide). However I recommend you to pull these pins low just in case you miss the setting and its a good practice to pull these lines low.

    Hope this helps :)

    Thanks

    Sachin

  • Thank you, Sachin.

    One more question:

If I am using only one input port (Port 1), are both data channels to the DLP6500 required (both A and B channels) or I can use only one?

If may use only one, is there any requirements for terminating the unused one?

    Ivica

  • Hi Ivica,

I assume the data channels A and B referred are the outputs from IT653x HDMI decoder chip. A is connected to Port 1 and B channel to port 2 if you are

using TI provided EVM. In that case., you need not terminate the unused one or you can remove  RP9-RP15 and R33-34 if you are using only single pixel mode

    Hope this answers your question

    Thanks

    Sachin

  • No, Sachin.

We're not using IT653x, but the FPGA as a host. Between the FPGA and DLPC900 is only one input pixel Port 1, P1_A, B and C. Input pixel Port 2, P2_A, B and C are unused and left unconnected for now. My question was related to the interface between DLPC900 and DMD6500 - do we have to connect both LVDS interface channels, DDA and DDB or just one, and do we need to terminate unused one?

    Thanks.

    Ivica

  • Ivica,

    Apologies for the confusion.

You need to connect both the channels irrespective of whether you use single input port or both. The two channels are used to send DMD data in DDR fashion. Please refer section 6.15 of DLPC900 datasheet for timing related information

    Hope this helps

    Thanks

    Sachin

  • Of course it helps, although I'd be much happier if I could use only one :)

    Thanks, Sachin.

I will keep this thread opened a bit while, if some more questions pop up.

  • Ivica,

I would suggest you opening a new thread for a different question. That way, it would be helpful for other community members to search for an answer to a similar question. Note that the forum conversations are helpful for other community members with similar issues.

    Thanks

    Sachin

  • Ok, good.

In that case, closing this thread as resolved.

    Thanks again.
