Looking at the schematic, I noticed that many of the parts of LC are modular, and I assumed that we could isolate the working DMD chip from all the optical components. I just want to make sure that this is the case.

We are seeking to build an optical system around the DMD chip using our own equipment so we need a very clear and unobstructed path to and from the DMD chip for our own system's illumination and collection arms. Is it possible to remove all the optical components so that we can do this and still control the chip?

If not, would you suggest just buying the chipset (http://focus.ti.com/paramsearch/docs/parametricsearch.tsp?family=analog&familyId=1746&uiTemplateId=MDLP_PARMSRCH_T&paramCriteria=no)? Am I correct in assuming that the chipset is standalone? Also, what type of software comes with the chipset that allows control over the DMD? I could only find the API for the LC, and that software will probably not be included if I buy only the chipset...

Hello Shwetadwip,

The answer is emphatically YES! You can remove the DMD and Controller board from the optics and operate the DMD/Controller board. The DMD fits into a daughter board that then connects to a blade style socket near the edge of the Dontroller board.

I believe that if you buy the chipset also, that you will have access to to the same software.

I was talking to a LogicPD representative, and she said that the "chipset itself is a TI product sold through distribution and does not come with any application software. For the chipset alone, you can work with TI or a TI authorized distributor."

However, upon calling TI, they say that they do not directly sell anything, including this chipset (http://focus.ti.com/paramsearch/docs/parametricsearch.tsp?family=analog&familyId=1746&uiTemplateId=MDLP_PARMSRCH_T&paramCriteria=no).

So, where can I go to purchase this chipset?

Also, although the LogicPD representative says that the chipset does NOT come with software, I found a link (http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/dlpr200.html) that seems to allow downloads. Is this the correct software to download to control the chip?
