Cannot connect DLP NIRScan EVM to Windows 10 PC

Hello,

I am trying to connect DLP NIRScan EVM to a Windows 10 PC. It appears that the EVM is not able to communicate with the PC. I have tried two different approaches:

1) Used the http://192.168.0.10 IP address to try to connect to the EVM over the USB cable but the site is not found and the request times out repeatedly.

2) Downloaded the GUI which does get properly installed but does not show 'Connected' at the top. Tried multiple times with various combinations of starting the GUI and connecting the cable but to no avail.

I suspect the problem lies in a device driver not being present. It could be the RNDIS driver. When the EVM is connected to the PC then it simply enumerates as a USB device not as a COM port or an ethernet port. I am not sure how to install the RNDIS driver which I have downloaded but comes as a .cat file. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your message. I had a look at what you suggested. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. When I connect the EVM to my Windows 10 PC then it seems to enumerate as a USB device. I can see that in Device Manager. There is no prompt for a device driver. No adiional devices appear under Ethernet adaptors or the COM ports in the Device Manager. Only the USB devices list shows a new root hub and a USB composite device when EVM is connected to the PC. 

    I also tried directly connecting the EVM to the PC with an ethernet cable but that didn't help either. 

    One other thing - during the installation of the GUI it tried to install a 'DFU driver' but that seems to have got stuck and never completed. I wonder if that has caused any issue.

    Kindly check the NIRScan EVM User Guide Chapter 2 (Quick Start) Section 2.1 (Power-Up the DLP NIRscan EVM). This section provides detailed steps on how to install RNDIS drivers and connect the EVM to PC.

    Thanks for your suggestion. I have already tried following the guidelines in Chapter 2 of the NIRScan EVM User Guide but did not manage to make a connection. Here is what happens.

    The EVM powers up nicely on connecting to a power source. When I connect it to a Windows 10 PC then the USB chime sounds but no messages come up. It does not ask for a driver to be installed. This I take as implying that the device is assumed to work with a built-in driver. Next, I try to open up https://192.168.0.10 in different web browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome) but in each case it reports that the site was not found. Relaod doesn't help either. Because the EVM is running a web browser so I take it that it is an issue with communication between the EVM and the PC.

    I opened up the device manager to investigate more. The device does not appear as a COM port or as an ethernet port. It does come up as a USB device so it is clear that it enumerates as a USB device and bound to a built-in USB driver because no message asking for a USB driver to be installed come up. The USB device is simply reported as a composite USB device. I don't know how to install an RNDS driver if no driver is asked for. I have downloaded the RNDS driver which is now in a folder containing rndis.cat catalog and a RNDIS.inf file. What should I do next?

    Hi Faiz, 

    Kindly follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Download RNDIS driver correct package from the link mentioned on the NIRScan EVM User Guide.

    2. Extract the contents of the .cab to a new folder.

    3. Make sure your NIRScan EVM is plugged directly to the computer, not through any hub/dock. 

    4. Open Device manager, and find out under which name the NIRScan EVM is detected (you may need to plug the USB in and out to spot which device is being detected). 
    5. Right click on the detected USB Device name and click "Update Drivers".

    6.  Select "Browse My Computer For Device Software"

    7. Point to the folder that holds the extracted the contents of the .cab file in step 2. 

    8. Follow the NIRscan EVM User Guide mentioned section.
