DLPDLCR2000EVM: Image focus distance

Part Number: DLPDLCR2000EVM

Hi, I have a question about the projection of the 2000 EVM, I am working on a project where I need to do a short-distance projection on a rear-projection film and then pass that image through a series of prisms and lenses external to the projector, I don't require that the projected image is large, about 5cm wide is fine.

In section 3.1 of the user guide a focus range is specified that goes from 10-60 '', my question is:

  • What is the minimum focus distance at which I can project an image?

I have worked with a pico projector of a tablet and from 8cm away a clear image is formed, just 5 cm wide.

  • Hello User,

Welcome to the E2E forums and thanks for your interest in our DLP technology.

Please see the linked thread for discussion on this topic. I believe this will answer your questions:

    I hope this helps.

  • Thanks, as mentioned in the post, I would also like to get in touch with one of their optical engineers who can help me with the implementation of another lens to modify the focus distance.

  • Hello User,

Let me share what our optical engineers had to say on the matter:

"There is no simple and effective method to achieve this, especially since we don’t have access to the detailed optical prescription of the projection lens. It is possible to shorten the focus distance by adding an off the shelf lens after the projection lens, however, it would be a lot of trial and error guesswork, and the image quality would be greatly reduced.

A more realistic approach might be to remove the projection lens and replace it with a camera lens. There would still be challenges in mechanical fit and back working distance of the camera lens, but it is more likely to succeed than just adding a lens."

    I hope this helps.
