DLP6500FYE: Parameter inquiry

Part Number: DLP6500FYE

Hi Team,

I'm confused on this parameter on DMD products, in the Recommended Operating Condition page 13 the

ILLUV (Illumination, wavelength < 420 nm ) is at max 0.68 mW/cm2, is this the ultimate radiation power density incident on micromirrors?

While checking page 31-32 calculation for typical projection application is provided making:

QARRAY = 2.9 W + (0.00293 W / lm × 2000 lm) = 8.76 W

From which, if we understood correctly, it follows that power can be absorbed in micromirrors (0.00293 W / lm × 2000 lm) = 5.86 W
Could you comment, if they can really absorb up to 5.86 W, and then what values are given in the table on page 13.

  • Hello Renan,

    This is correct.  Power is not the sole concern.  For a deeper understanding of why shorter wavelengths are limited on a visible part, please reference this Application Note:

    System Design Considerations Using TI DLP® Technology in UVA (363 – 420 nm) (Rev. A).  Particularly look at the introduction.

    In the range above 420 nm then the 5.86 W is permissible, provided you have an adequate cooling solution to keep the array temperature within operating range.  In fact above 420 nm it is thermally limited, meaning that you can put more power on the DMD if you can keep the array temperature within the operating temperature specifications.
