3010 Projection timing

I supposed there's 2 ways to project 2D pattern:

1. External streaming mode with HDMI

2. Splash pattern mode

How quick we could project 2D pattern with 3010? I'm having some difficulties understanding after viewed the timing chart at here.

With Internal pattern it could goes up to 10912µs - 13024µs with 8 bit 1D.

With external pattern it could goes up to 10912µs - 21824µs with 8 bit 2D.

Does it means both can achieve project a pattern at 10912µs ? And why's the range anyway?

And in Splash mode, it can goes up to 7737µs - 17034µs, which is a quicker than internal pattern mode.

I'm a quite confuse...

  • Sean,

The speed values shown here are specifically referring to the exposure time of the system for different sequence and illumination configurations.

What sort of use case are you exploring? This may help stimulate discussion on tradeoffs between operational modes.

  • Hi Philippe,

My first objective is speed with use case below:

A sets of RGB 8bit 2D images (let's say 4 but it could be more) and interchange with different sets.

  • Hi Sean,

The timing information you are referring to does not include the latency of loading the patterns/splash images from flash chip to the controller. It only refers to the rate at which a particular sequence can run.

For the case you are interested in, I would recommend you to display the multiple 2D patterns using the external pattern mode as in splash pattern mode only monochrome (R, G or B) patterns can be displayed.

    Thanks and regards,

    Mayank

  • Hi Mayank,

Does latency of loading cause the variation of range between each mode?

The external pattern mode does it mean

"On the EVMs this mode can be used by hooking up a video source to the HDMI input (additional circuitry on the EVMs converts this signal to the parallel input on the DLPC347x controller)."

How do we sync the projection with image acquire, with external pattern mode?

    Thanks,

    Sean

  • Sean,

My responses to your queries are as follows -

    1. The latency does not have a cause-affect relationship with the numbers mentioned in the sequence timing chart. But it will have a direct impact on the maximum achievable frame rate.

    2. Yes. In external pattern mode, patterns are supplied to the parallel interface of the controller via a front end chip

(in the case of EVM it is done by the ITE chip (HDMI to parallel RGB converter)).

    3. There are 2 Trigger Out signal supported in the external pattern mode (similar to the ones in internal pattern mode) which help in the synchronization of the pattern projection with image acquisition.

    Regards,

    Mayank
