DLP pattern

Dear TI support,

I am writing to ask whether there is any DLP product that can display 540 1-bit distinct images in one time. Waiting for your reply. Thank you.

BR,

Jing Xia

  • Hello Jing,

Welcome to DLP forum and thank you for your interest in DLP technology.

Could you please share more details about your application? Is there a target resolution and brightness requirement?

Please help understand " 540 1-bit distinct image in one time". Are there 540 one bit mage is memory?  The  system goes through them and displays one after another without any external trigger or control?

    regards,

    Vivek

  • Hi Vivek,

The resolution is 1920 x1080. " 540 1-bit distinct image in one time" means load 540 images into the flash in one time, then finish displaying all 540 images in 1 second. And yes, display one after without any external trigger but the timing. I have used the DLP6500, and with the on-the-fly pattern mode. But this DLP can permit 400 images in one time as the limit of flash size.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Jing,

You can the meet your pattern display requirement using external pattern mode of DLPC3479 based DLP chipset.

In external pattern mode, you will have to pack multiple 1bit patterns into 24bit BMP image and input these images via parallel video port to  DLPC3479 controller at runtime.

Since patterns are displayed at runtime in external pattern mode, there are no flash size limitations associated with it.

    Thanks and regards,

    Mayank

Your existing DLP6500 DLPC900 platform also supports Video Pattern Mode, see DLPC900 Programmers guide section 5.1

The DLPC900 limitation of 400 1-bit patterns for pre-stored pattern mode is not due to the external flash size but the DLPC900 internal DRAM size, (128 megabit) is only capable of holding 400 1-bit images at any one time.

  • Hi Mayank,

Thank you for your reply. And could you tell me whether the DLP9000 evaluation board can meet the requirement or not? Thank you.

    BR,

    Jing

  • Hi Carey Ritchey,

Thank you for your reply. Do you mean that I can use video pattern mode using DLP6500 to meet the requirement? How is speed? Can it display 540 images in one second? As far as I know from the datasheet, the frame rate of video is 120hz. Thank you.

    BR,

    Jing Xia

  • Jing

    120 Hz is the RGB 8-bit pattern rate for DLP6500 / DLPC900

See table 1 in the DLP6500FYE datasheet

Video Pattern Mode will support up to 2880 Hz for 1 bit patterns

  • Hi Carey,

As the DLP9000 includes 2 DLPC900, it is meaning that the DLP9000 EVM is capatable of 2x400  1-bit binary compressed patterns. Am I right?  And what is the load time for 540 imges?

    Thank you.

    BR,

    Jing Xia

  • Jing Xia

Sorry no, the DL9000 is 4.1 Megapixels and uses the combined internal memory of both DLPC900 controllers to store 400 1-bit pattern data.

Using pre-stored pattern mode with dual  DLPC900 controllers and the DLP9000 you can achieve 9.5 kHz pattern rates, the 400 internal restored patterns could be displayed in ~42 ms

    See  section 7.9

  • Hi Carey,

Thank you for your reply. So the DLP9000 EVM board stores max 400 1-bit binary patterns. And could you suggest an EVM board that can pre-store 540 images with 1920x1080 resolution?

    Thank you.
