DLPLCR9000EVM: How do I display a custom splash screen that is persistent after a power cycle?

Part Number: DLPLCR9000EVM

Hi,

How do I display a custom splash screen that is persistent after a power cycle?  I can display a Pre-Stored Pattern Mode image, and a Pattern On-The-Fly Mode image, but neither are persistent after a power cycle.

I have loaded the image and it works, then I have Update Firmware with Add Pattern Images (from Pattern Mode tab), and then Uploaded the new firmware image, but the image is gone after a power cycle.

I have followed the step shown in this video, and it works, bu it is not persistent after a power cycle.

  • Hi Paul,

Welcome to the E2E forum! I'm happy to look into this for you.

Following the procedure mentioned in  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYAXy2jwGeg should store Patterns images on the Firmware.

Once Pattern images are stored in Firmware, it should be retained during power cycle.

I recommend to change Firmware tag while generating new Firmware images, rename the file and Make sure Firmware with Pre Stored pattern is loaded.

You also refer to Section 3.9.1.2 Adding Images in 6500 and 9000 Evaluation Module (EVM) User's Guide

    Thanks,

    Shivakumar

  • Hi Shivakumar,

I couldn't get Section 3.9.1.2 to work, basically after closing the software and power cycling the board, this is displayed when I try to Update LUT in Pre-Stored Pattern Mode:

When I load the images again, and then Update LUT it starts working. However, what I want is for the board to power up and display an image without having a USB connection.

So I gave up on Section 3.9.1.2 and tried Section 3.9.1.3, and removed the USB cable and power cycled the board and it worked!  This is not what I expected, because I thought this mode would only work with a USB cable.  So thank you for the support, but I think the documentation is not very good.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hello Paul,

You will need to store a batch file in the firmware and make it the default so that it will automatically run the batch file on startup.

An example of this is the OOB firmware that can be downloaded from TI.

As a test you can load the OOB firmware and then power cycle.  It should come up and display a series of pre-stored images (stripes, checkerboards, and logos).

You can start with the firmware that you stored the patterns in and simply add the batchfile that runs the logos while in prestored pattern mode.
