DLPLCR6500EVM: Cautions of DLPLCR6500EVM and DLP6500FYE

Our lab bought a new set of DLPLCR6500EVM after the last one was broken. It seems that this product is a little fragile because we used it in a standard lab environment and did some work to eliminate ESD, besides, some others in the forum had happened same problems, too. To prevent to damage the new kit again, I want to get some cautions of DLPLCR6500EVM an DLP6500FYE. However, the cautions in the DLPLCR6500FYE User's Guide only contain two items. I wonder is there anything else I should pay attention to? Looking forward to your reply.

Hi Wenbin Jiao,

ESD is the major caution to consider. Make sure to handle and operate this device in ESD safe environment.

External power supply being used should meet specification mentioned in section 5.1 External Power Supply Requirements of DLP® LightCrafter™ 6500 and 9000 Evaluation Module (EVM) User's Guide

Section 1.7 DLP LightCrafter 6500 and DLP LightCrafter 9000 EVM Flex Cable has information about proper usage of Flex cable.

Section 6 Specifications in DLP6500 0.65 1080p MVSP S600 DMD Datasheet contains information about Electrical, Thermal and Storage Specifications. Make sure to operate the DMD within specified limit.

Hi, Shivakumar. Thanks for your reply. I still have another question that there is no button to power the EVM off, so what's the correct order to power off? Shall I unplug the power plug of EVM firstly and then disconnect the EVM with PC?

Hi Wenbin Jiao,

Yes, Unplugging the power plug of EVM firstly and then disconnecting the EVM with PC is the correct procedure.

Hello Wenbin.

We also recommend that you do not handle the controller board (or the DMD board) while the board is in operation. If you need to move the controller board, please power down as Shivakumar recommends and wait about 15 - 20 seconds for the bulk capacitors to bleed off before moving the system in addition to following standard ESD proceedures.
