DLPLCR6500EVM: DLPC900+6500 How to troubleshoot when D5 is blinking red

Part Number: DLPLCR6500EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC900

Hi

We designed a custom DLP application system with reference to 6500EVM without IT6535. we only use Pre-Stored Pattern Mode.

Everything was correct until yesterday (update firmware or pattern seq).

issues:

Now after updating the firmware --> restarting --> D5 (red led) will blink in a certain pattern. like this

     __   __   __   __           __                      __   __   __   __           __                       __   __   __   __           __
 __|   |_|   |_|   |_|   | ____ |   |___________|   |_|   |_|   |_|   | ____ |   |___________|   |_|   |_|   |_|   | ____ |   |
USB no enumeration information (cannot connect)
try:(failed)
Bootloader can be updated using JTAG Boundary Scan (erasing/downloading/verification looks normal)
repower  -->  USB can be connected --> Use the GUI to update the firmware to return to the previous problem state (tried various firmware that was used normally before)
GUI: DLP LCR6500 & LCR9000 GUI 4.0.1
PROM: DLPR900PROM-5.0.1
Looking forward to your help.
Byron
  • Hello Byron,

I haven't heard from you for a while.  I am referring this to one of our software guys.

Just to confirm, you are seeing a pattern of 4 blinks followed by a gap and one blink, then a very long gap and then the pattern repeats.  Is that correct?

  • Hi,Fizix

Glad to receive your reply again.

    Yes,just like you said.

There is no corresponding situation in the above list

  • Hi Byron,

Can you help me with following details.

    1. Is it possible to capture D5 (red led) pulse in oscilloscope and share the screenshot.

    2. Can you capture controller UART (J6) debug messages and see if any error is printed when red led blinks.

    DLP® LightCrafter™ 6500 and 9000 Evaluation Module (EVM) User's Guide, page 18.

    3. Since  IT6535 is not used, can you create Firmware disabling HDMI/DP port in power up default, load new Firmware and check if problem is resolved.

    Thanks,

    Shivakumar

  • Shivakumar

    thank you for your reply.

I will provide the test results as soon as possible.

  • Hi Byron,

    Thanks for providing information.

Let me check and get back on the next steps.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Byron,

Looking at the Debug Message, this error is reported due to invalid memory access.

To further debug, can you provide following information.

    1. Are you loading the TI Released firmware "DLPR900PROM-6500-v5.0.1-OOB" without doing any modification. Please share the Firmware you are using.

    2. Is this issue is observed with only this Board or in all the boards.

    3. Can you share exact Part number of the External flash Chip been used and "FlashDeviceParameters.txt" file (DLPC900REF-SW-4.0.1\DLPC900REF-GUI\Flash). What is the total External Flash memory size.

I will also send you Firmware with higher level of debug enabled. Please load this Firmware and Capture the debug logs.

    MT28EW512   the flash

  • Thanks for the information Byron.

Since you are using One 64MB (MT28EW512 ) Flash Component, you must be following schematic as mentioned in Section

7.3.5.5.2.2 Combining Three Chip-Selects with One 64-Mbit Flash

In this case, Make sure Logic Gates, Pull Up resistors used are working properly. If there is any issue with the Data/Address/Chip Select lines, Proper memory will not be addressed.

Can you share Debug log with the Test Firmware i have sent.

    Thanks,

    Shivakumar

  • Shivakumar,

Thank you for your kind reminder, we will check the status of related devices. I have sent the Log to you separately.

  • Hi Byron,

    Thanks for Sharing Debug logs.

    As per your communication,

The fuse burned out at the first power on today.  So I changed a fuse(Still the same state).

Use JTAG to flash the Bootloader and then use USB to burn the Debug firmware you gave me. I found it can be used normally!!

So I flashed the previous firmware again and found that everything was normal.

    Fuse : F2 in《2513756D_LCR6500_HIRES_SINGLE_DLPC900_MAIN_BOARD.pdf》  Model is 2410SFV10.0FM/125-2

Since problem is resolved, i am closing this issue. Thanks for your update.
