DLP5531Q1EVM: DLPC230 Control Program Lite 1.8 Build 1242

Part Number: DLP5531Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP5530Q1EVM, DLPC230-Q1

This is the  situation. Our company want to buy the DLP5531Q1EVM to develop the new product, so we need to know how to use it. But if I don't know how to use it, our leaders won't approve me to buy it.

Through reading some PDF file  in TI Official website, I know a little about the EVM, and I have some question about DLP5531Q1EVM.

First Problem: If I burn 4 image to the DLP5531Q1EVM by using DLPC230 Control Program, but how to operate the DLPC230 Control Program to display each image, I did not find the relevant button, I only find the flash tab, display tab and source tab. Can you give me the relevant operating video or operation manual.

Second Problem: If I use the image which will be flashing, what requirements should the picture meet. For example, I use the 1152x576 resolution of image which meets the manual, but I don't know what format is needed (jpg, bmp?) and the image should be 24 bit bitmap or 256 color bitmap or 16 color bitmap?

Third Problem:  Do you have the tool which can convert pictures to bin format? If you have, give me. if you don't have, can you tell me how to realize the convertion?

Fourth Problem:  Can you give me the schematic diagram, we need it when we develop the DLP system. For example, we connect our own fan, we need to know the electrical parameters. we need know the voltage and current of the fan and the definition of the Pins.

  •  Hello -

    Problem 1)  Displaying Custom Images:

There are a few methods to display images through this EVM. Firstly, the images can be sent from an External Video Source (such as from a PC or other graphics rendering engine) via Micro-HDMI Cable or OpenLDI Flex Cable. Both cables are included with EVM purchase. In this case, the EVM acts as a typical "external display," similar to a secondary monitor. This method is preferred for most customers. The second option to display images is by storing static custom images--called Splash Screens--in the DLPC230 flash. Note that the flash size limits the number of Splash Screens to 3-5 images. If this is the preferred option, then please let us know and we will work with you after receiving the EVM to create the new flash with 3-5 custom Splash Screens included.

In either case, selecting one of the Splash Screens or selecting the external video input mode is achieved on the "Source" tab of the Control Program GUI. The options are populated only if the Control Program PC is connected to the EVM and can read out the available Source options from the flash.

Problem 2) Source Image File Format :

External Video Source : No requirement for file type, as long as it can be sent via HDMI from the source device.

Splash Screen acceptable file type: GIF, BMP, PNG, JPG.

Problem 3) From Image File to BIN:

This conversion tool is only needed if you plan to use Splash Screen source. If so, TI will provide this tool after purchasing the EVM.

If using External Video Source (Micro-HDMI or OpenLDI) this tool is not needed.

    Problem 4) Schematic Design Files:

Schematic design files can be found here:

  • Problem 1)  Displaying Custom Images:

According to your answer, my understanding is that when I use the Splash and if I have burned 4 images to the SPI flash, The options will be populated only if the Control Program PC is connected to the EVM, including a button to select which of the four images to display. Is my understanding right?

If you work with me after receiving the EVM to create the new flash with 3-5 custom Splash Screens included, What kind of pictures should I provide to you? Do you have any requirements on background color and format of the pictures, such as the background color of the pictures should be transparent. Or what pictures do you have that I can choose from.

Problem 2) Source Image File Format : Ok,thank you for your strong help.

Problem 3) From Image File to BIN:

Ok,when I purchase the EVM, What lists do I need to provide you, and then how do you give me the conversion tool and how can I contact you (can you give me a email). Note: my email is zjgchenzhen@126.com

    Problem 4) Schematic Design Files:

According to your file address, I find the DLP5531Q1 EVM's Schematic, but there is no LED Driver's Schematic. please, help me, I need to know the pins definition and Fan's output voltage and current, etc.

  • Problem 1)  Displaying Custom Images:

    You asked:

"The options will be populated only if the Control Program PC is connected to the EVM, including a button to select which of the four images to display. Is my understanding right?"

    Yes, that is correct.

    Problem 4) Schematic Design Files:

I need to apologize, as I mis-read the EVM part number you are interested in. My link was to the DLP5530Q1EVM, which is a different design than the DLP5531Q1EVM. Therefore, I will ask my colleagues more familiar with the proper part to provide you with more information. The answers for Problems #1-3 remain the same for both EVMs. Sorry for the confusion.

    Regards,

    Ross

  • The third question has not been answered. Can you answer The Problem 3, too?

Problem 3) From Image File to BIN:

Ok,when I purchase the EVM, What lists do I need to provide you, and then how do you give me the conversion tool and how can I contact you (can you give me a email). Note: my email is zjgchenzhen@126.com

  • Hello Chen,

These files should be available on the EVM product page on TI.com soon, but I have also granted you access to the EVM documentation and schematics page in the meantime. You should receive an email with instructions for access.

More info on the fan voltage and current limits, and other EVM information can be found in the EVM users guide, https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/dlpu067/dlpu067.pdf.

There are no requirements on the content of the splash image, just the resolution should be supported as in the DLPC230-Q1 datasheet or the EVM user guide, section 1.2.4.  It will typically be easier to display images over HDMI for rapid prototyping. But when you have the EVM and need to re-program the splash images, respond to this thread or post another question and we can give you access to the required software.

Is this for a high resolution headlight application?

    Best Regards,

    Jackson
