DLPDLCR2000EVM: Removing the light engine of the development kit

Part Number: DLPDLCR2000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPA1000, DLP2000

Hello everyone,

my name is Chris and I'm quite new in the area of DMDs. At the moment I want to buy a development kit for beginners to play a little bit around.

On your homepage I have found the Kit DLPDLCR2000EVM. My question is if it's possible to remove the light engine from the kit and only use the DMD. The reason is that I want to use a laser, instead of the LEDs in the engine to form arbitrary patterns with the DMD.

Thank you in advance!

Greetings

Chris

  • Chris,

Welcome to the E2E forums, and thanks for your interest in our DLP technology.

It is possible to disassemble the optical engine and use the DMD separate from the standard LED illumination inside the optical engine.

Under these conditions, however, external illumination sources would not be modulated by the DLPA1000 power management IC. Since the standard system setup modulates between red/green/blue LEDs, you would only be able to use monochrome (white) patterns with an external illumination source.

As for your use of laser, you may run into problems with the hardware. You will need to check the DLP2000 DMD datasheet (https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/dlps140/dlps140.pdf) Section 6.4 to confirm whether the illumination wavelength you wish to use is supported by the device.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Philippe Dollo
