DLP5530-Q1: Controlling Brightness and Sharpness of DLP based on lighting condition

Part Number: DLP5530-Q1

Hello Team,

Our Company wants to use DLP 5530 for Display based Product. We want to understand how to dynamically control the brightness and sharpness of the DLP based on different lighting condition from the HOST.
Does I2C will be used for controlling purpose? Do you have any software programming guide for that?

Thanks,

Sundar

  • Hello,

TI offers a SW GUI tool that can be used to adjust the brightness of our evaluation module (EVM) projectors, which can be found here:

For embedded solutions (that don't have access to a Windows PC via USB cable running the SW GUI) there is a SW command to adjust the "Dimming Level." The DLPC230(S)-Q1 Programmer's Guide for Display Applications has details about the SPI or I2C host commands. This document can be downloaded here:

For the sharpness, that will need to be optimized mechanically. Note that most projectors have a focus ring that can be adjusted.

Either I2C or SPI can be used for controlling purposes.

    Regards,

    Ross

  • Hello Ross,

    Thanks for the reply.

could you please help to provide The DLPC230(S)-Q1 Programmer's Guide?

    Thanks,
    Sundar

  • Hi Sundar -

You can find the DLPC230(S)-Q1 Programmer's Guide at this link:

  • Hello Ross,

    Thanks for the response.

We want to use I2C to control the DLP.

As per the EVM User Guide, For SPI there is Cheetah connector is available,

For I2C, do we need to use any connectors or we can directly connect with HOST I2C port using cable(D) provided as part of EVM package.

Also can you provide an example command format to control the dimming level using I2C for TX and RX READ/WRITE from host?

    Thanks,

    Sundar

  • Hello Ross,

Do we have any update on this?

    Thanks,

    Sundar

  • Hi Sundar -

Yes, you can connect cable D (Host I2C Cable) into connector J1 of the FORMATTER board. The other end can be connected to your own processor (host) which is generated commands.

For the command format, we do not have an I2C example. The best resource will be the Programmer's Guide linked above.

Please let us know if you have any issues with the implementation.

    Regards,

    Ross

  • Hello Ross,

    Thanks for the reply.

Is it possible to use I2C with DLPC controller software? We have tried to use , but unable to connect it properly,

Write Execute Batch Command Set – external HDMI source 1152x1152@60Hz

    Write

    21 7C 01 05 9A

Also i used USB2ANY tool and tried the above I2C command to switch the source selection to HDMI, is that right?

Could you please help to suggest on that?

    Thanks,

    Sundar

  • Hello Ross,

We were able to communicate with I2C on DLP5530.

    We can close this ticket.

    Thanks,

    Sundar
