DLP6500FYE: DLPLCR6500EVM GUI Image Upload Formats

Part Number: DLP6500FYE

Could someone let me know what type of image file formats the DLPLCR6500EVM GUI takes? Currently using V. 4.0.1

I've looked through the pdfs and I've seen mentions of being able to use .bmp and .png but I'd also like to know which specific format as well.

ex. a .bmp can range from 1 bit to 32 bit. and a .png could have a 24 bit or 32 bit

I've also noticed that .jpg are not visible when selecting images.

Last question: Does uploading a 24 bit png vs 32 bit png produce the same projected 8 bit image by the dmd?

Best,

Jimmy

  • Hi Jimmy,

DLPLCR6500EVM GUI takes " bmp, png " image formats. JPG file format is not supported.

GUI has user selectable bit depth option. Bit depth 1 to 8 can be selected.
GUI converts 24 bit or 32 bit images to grayscale, Alpha components in 32 bit image is not considered.

For practical applications, customers use Greyscale patterns instead of RGB color images.

Once any image pattern is selected, GUI show's on its waveform window how the pattern will be displayed on the DMD.

    Thanks,

  • Thanks Shivakumar,

    This was helpful.

    I have two additional questions,

Does Video Mode also convert the incoming source to 8 bit greyscale?

Is there any way to get a resolution higher than 8 bits?

    Best,

    Jimmy

  • Hi Jimmy,

Yes. In Video pattern mode, GUI allows option to choose which color channel from input video source to be displayed.
If you choose Red channel and Select bit depth, then only the Red component of the RGB video source will be displayed.

Displaying only Red channel internally means displaying Greyscale value of Red channel. Refer to EVM User guide for more details.

Right now maximum bit depth supported is 8. We may support higher bit depth in future.

    Thanks,
    Shivakumar

  • Hi Shivakumar,

There was a bit of a misunderstanding. My question was directed towards Video Mode, the first operating mode shown there on the image you inserted.

Does Video Mode also convert the incoming signal to 8 bit greyscale?

Would it make a difference if I displayed an RGB image vs a greyscale image in Video Mode?

    Best,

    Jimmy

  • Hi Jimmy,

Video Mode will displays incoming video data as it is.

    Thanks,
    Shivakumar
