DMD

Is the unpowered state of the DMD usable?

I means "is the DMD a tri-state device"? Can each mirror be controlled to stay at untilted status

  • Hello Peter,

Welcome to the DLP & MEMS E2E forum.

The flat state of a DMD mirror is not an operational position. When a DMD is operating, each mirror is in either the +12 degree or -12 degree tilt position - unless the DMD is parked. In the parked condition, all of the mirrors will be in a neutral, but not mechanically well defined, position. This position will be close to flat, but the tilt will vary somewhat from mirror to mirror. That is, the parked position is not guaranteed to be flat - with all of the mirrors exactly parallel to the DMD plane.

For an unpowered DMD (which has been properly parked before power-down) the mirrors will remain in this same condition - not guaranteed to be flat.

    Best regards,

    Pascal
