DLP4710EVM-LC: Cannot control projector using GUI,EVM status is connected, powered off.

Part Number: DLP4710EVM-LC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4710LC

Hi,

My dlp4710evm can't be controlled by dlp4710lc 2.2.0.6, and the status shows that the status is connected and powered off. When I click Get , the following error will be prompted

I tried to download dlpc3479_fw_8.1.0.img from the official website  to update the firmware, but the error is shown in the figure below:

I saw the solution on the forum is that keeping the switch off when updating the firmware. I want to know if the switch is SW21? After turning on the power switch, I tried not to press sw21 to update the firmware and press sw21 once to update the firmware, both of which showed the error as shown in the figure.

At present, EVM can not normally cast the picture. After power on, after pressing sw21 each time, the pictures with a duration of about one second will be projected and then the projection will be stopped.

At present, when my EVM turns on the power switch, d43 and D57 are on, then press sw21, d33 and D56 flash and then go out, and d43 and D57 continue to be on.

How can I handle this problem, thank you for your help!

Regards,

Nolan

  • Hello Nolan,

Welcome to the E2E forum and thank you for your interest in DLP technology!

Would you be able to confirm that you are following the Quick-Start Procedure on page 7 of the DLP4710EVM-LC User's Guide? I am considering the possibility that SW28 has not been switched.

Please let us know if you are able to flash the EVM after following this guide.

    Regards,

    Austin

  • Hello Austin,

I followed the Quick-Start Procedure on page 7 of the DLP4710EVM-LC User's Guide. When I turned on the SW28, D43 and D57 lighted up. Then I pushed the SW21, D56 lighted up and got out emmediately. Then D33 lighted up for one or two seconds, at this time, EVM projected the picture. Then D33 got out and the project stopped to project picture.

EVM can work before, I think I did something wrong when I backup firmware or update flash image or changed sittings in Light Control. And I can't remember what I did in GUI.

Could you tell me what should I do next? Thank you for your help!

    Regards,

    Nolan

  • Nolan,

Even if you have written bad firmware to the DLP4710-LC EVM, you should still be able to write new firmware to the system using the GUI above. The GUI talks directly over the Cypress IC to the EEPROM flash device so you should be OK in that regard.

I recommend you flash the device while the system is powered on. Otherwise the Cypress won't be working. If your firmware load is currently bad then the "Get" button on the first page will not work. However, the flash update feature in the "Firmware" tab should still work.

  • Philippe,

Sorry, I can't understand " flash the device while the system is powered on" . Do you mean updating the firmware when keep SW28 on and keep S21 off? But this is how I do. I may have misunderstood. Could you tell me exactly how to do it?

And I saw another solution in https://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp/f/dlp-products-forum/797430/dlp4710evm-lc-i2c-error-while-trying-to-gain-access/2955031#2955031 may help me. Bur I don't kown how to "directly access the SPI flash without using USB or GUI and update the firmware."

    Best Regards,

    Nolan

  • Nolan,

What you are suggesting will work fine for programming the flash device (Turn on SW28, ignore S21). After you do these steps go to "Firmware" tab and use "Update Firmware" Menu to program the system.

If you cannot use the "Update Firmware" menu then the suggestion in the above thread may work. However, this procedure requires you to have a method to write directly to the EEPROM device on the EVM. You would need something like a SPI Host Adapter (such as a Cheetah) along with a SOIC-8 clip or equivalent to attach the Cheetah's SPI lines to the EEPROM.

    I hope this helps.
