DLP4500: I used matlab to generate 200 images which grayscale valuse from 35 to 235. Then I projected these images to a white board and captured them by a ccd camera. But the intensity is not continual.

Part Number: DLP4500

Hello Team!

I use matlab to generate 200 images (8 bit) which grayscale values from 35 to 235. They are show in the next picture.

And the I use the LightCrafter4500 to create images, One 24 bit images are composed of 3 images (8 bit). 200 Images (8 bit) generate 67 images (24 bit). And then I use these 67 images created by LightCrafter4500 to generate two img file. The first file is composed of 32 images (24 bit), the second img file is composed of 35images (24 bit). The figure of genrerate process is showed in the next picture.

And the I use the pattern sequence and set the Pattern exposure is 500ms and the Pattern period is 500ms. The exposure time of ccd camera is 5ms.  I project these images with green, red and blue LED respectively. The camera is trigger by the DLP. The capture images is showes in the nexte picture.

We can see in this picture, the first question is the grayscale is not continual. And the second questio is between the index of 92 and 93, the intensity is down obviously. But in theory, the intensity must be continual.

And the  I use the matlab to process these image captured by camera. I Found the responsed curve is step which is showed in the next picture. The X axis is the input grayscale values of projector, the valuse is 35 to 235. And the Y axis is the grayscale valuse of captured pitcure. We can see the line of red, green and blue are steps, not linear.

Why the program will appear? Thanks.

  • Hello JingLin Li,

Welcome to the E2E forum and thank you for your interest in DLP technology.

Are you using a custom board or the DLPLCR4500 EVM? Do you see nonlinearities when displaying a ramp image?

There could be a few reasons behind this non-linear output that may actually be the proper function of the system.

    Regards,

    Austin

  • JingLin Li,

Any updates on the above issue? It would be good to test greyscale ramp to determine whether the issue is with DLP4500 bitplane configuration or otherwise. You can also use external video patterns to test further.

If the problem is your configuration, you may want to review your GUI settings accordingly.

    Best Regards,

    Philippe
