Questions on RST_ACTIVE

In the datasheet, it says:

  1. ...RST_ACTIVE goes high for approximately 4.5 µs, indicating a Mirror Clocking Pulse operation is in progress. During this time, no additional Mirror Clocking Pulses may be initiated until RST_ACTIVE returns low.
  2. While RST_ACTIVE is high, and for 8 µs after, the data for the block(s) being issued a Mirror Clocking Pulse should not be changed to allow for the settling required for the mirrors to become stable.
  3. It is possible to load other blocks while the block previously issued a Mirror Clocking Pulse is settling.

My questions are:

  1. What is being done the 4.5 µs?
  2. Does the settling time include both 4.5 µs and 8 µs or only 8 µs?
  3. More importantly, can data be loaded into other blocks during the 4.5 µs while RST_ACTIVE is high?

Thanks!

  • Hello Feng,

During the 4.5 µs the Mirror Clocking Pulse [MCP] arbitor is setting up and performing MCP on the requested block.  Some initial part of the settling occurs during the last 2 µs of this 4.5 µs, but the remainder of the settling occurs during the 8 µs.

After the initial request for an MCP, data can be loaded into blocks not affected by the MCP.  This includes during the 4.5 µs and the 8 µs.

  • This is the answer I'm looking for. Thank you!

  • Hi Fizix,

I have one more question. When can MCP be issued other blocks that is not undergoing MCP? RST_ACTIVE goes low after 4.5 µs, so after it, MCP can be issued to other blocks, which can be during the 8 µs settling time of the current block. Am I right?

    Thanks,

    Feng

  • Hello Feng,

You are exactly correct.  During the 4.5 µs the MCP arbiter is busy, but after that an MCP can be requested for any block or group of blocks (i.e. dual or quad) that are not undergoing mirror settling.

For example if you requested a dual MCP for blocks 1 & 2, when RST_ACTIVE goes low you could immediately request an MCP for dual blocks 3 & 4 or 5 & 6 even while 1 & 2 are completing their mirror settling time.

I hope this answers your question.
