LightCrafter 4500 Vs. 4710

Hello,

 

We're using 4500 as a fringe pattern (binary) projector.

We'd like to change from 4500 to 4710 but there are some problems.

 

1. Does 4710 has an external sync port for camera?

2. Does 4710 have pattern image generation tool?

In the case of 4500, we can make an image for fringe projection using DLP LightCrafter 4500 Control S/W (Ver1.2).

3. Is there any SDK for 4710 to control the projector(similar to 4500)?

We are using Visual Studio 2010(64bit).

    Thank you for your interest in one of our EVMs. Please see below the answers to your questions.

    1. Does 4710 has an external sync port for camera?

    Currently we don't have the external sync port for camera routed to a test point on our 4710 EVM. We would be able to provide you with a special firmware which outputs the camera sync on one of our test points.

    2. Does 4710 have pattern image generation tool?

    Currenly we don't have a pattern image generation tool included.

    3. Is there any SDK for 4710 to control the projector(similar to 4500)?

    The 4710EVM is using the Cypress chip to communicate to our Chipset. Cypress has a SDK available on their homepage which can be used and downloaded.

    Can I have the approximate schedule for firmware updating which enables the external sync?
    The external sync is essential for our project and I have to decide whether I find other solution or not.
    The schedule will be very helpful for my decision.

    Unfortunately we don't have the firmware currently available. We will try to provide the firmware as soon as possible.

    Currently I don't have a specific date for the firmware availability.

    Hello Nadine,

    I'm currently having the Problem, that my company bought the 4710 but needs a way to trigger a camera with the external sync port.
    Could you give me an update on how far the frimware update is and when it will be availiable?

    I also saw here (www.ti.com/.../DLPC3439) your suggestion of using the hdmi vsync.
    I tried to figure out how to get this sync signal and all I found was to use a HDMI Splitter and Connecting a HDMI->VGA Adapter and accessing the VSync there. Do you think this could work or do you see another way?

    Any help is really appreciated!

    Unfortunately we still don't have a date for the firmware availability. As I mentioned in the post befor the camera trigger signal is currently routed to TSTPT_2 of the DLPC3439. This test point is not accessible on our DLP LightCrafter Dislpay 4710 EVM.
    If you are planning on designing your own layout you might want to add a test point or header on TSTPT_2.
    Yes you can use the hdmi vsync signal at 60Hz instead.

    Hello Nadine,

    thank you for your fast answer! Unfortunately we don't have the capacities and time to design our own layout.

    We'll try to make it wok with the Vsync and otherwise replace the 4710 with a 6500 EVM.

    I'll let you now if it works.

    Hello Nadine,

    unfortunately we haven't been able to test the Vsync solution yet.
    But we tested the functionality of the EMV and like it so far.

    Am I correct that there is still no date on the firmware update for trigger capabilities?

    We changed our minds on the subject of design our own layout for the triggerin.
    Regarding this I have a few questions (if you don't mind using this
    thread, as I think it will be easier to follow for someone with the same problem):

    In this thread you mentioned TSTPT_4 as the TestPoint that needs to be accessible.
    However in the linked thread (e2e.ti.com/.../467279)
    TSTPT_2 is mentioned. Is there a correct one or does it not matter?
    What software/firmware changes need to be done to make the chosen TestPoint an Trigger?

    Maybe if everything works you could integrate these changes in your current EVM.

    It would also be a great help if you could provide the CAD model of the DLP 4710 Eval kit.

    Hello Jakamoto,

    I think I have to correct myself. TSTPT4 has a test point TP18 available on the EVM but the current firmware uses TSTPT2 for VSYNC which is not routed out on the EVM board. Sorry for the confusion.

    We still don't have a date on the firmware availability which will route the VSYNC to TSTPT4.

    So if you would design your own board you could make TSTPT2 available for the VSYNC signal.
