Linux/TMS320DM8148: newest toolchain avilable to 814x process

Hi,

For compiling the ARM core (Cortex-A8) of TI8148 we are using a very old toolchain (CodeSourcery arm-2009q1-203-arm-none-linux-gnueabi)

We considering to upgrade it for using newer compiler, for example: Linaro 5.4.0.

Is there any issue with updating the toolchain? any limitation? Can you recommend on other alternatives for our current toolchain?

Hi Arie,

What is your kernel version?
If your kernel version is above 4.0 then you can upgrade to new toolchain.

If using kernel 2.6.37, you can use Arago Cross Compiler Toolchain v2011.09 with GCC 4.5.3:

Is it possible to compile the user space application in newer toolchain and the kernel in different (and old) toolchain?

It is kind of mismatch but I wonder is it stable enough?

I have never tried this, I can not confirm.

It might work, but if you have huge version mismatch between libc (GNU C Library) of old and new toolchain, there might be issues. You might also try to use static applications (not dynamic), thus you will have better chance.

I can't write a generic answer here since issues may vary based on the tool chain versions. But, please plan to use common tool chain as suggested.
