DM8168 encode/decode/display capabilities & clustering multiple DM8168

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVP7002

Hi,

     (1) If the fps is not what I care about, how many channels of 1080P raw data capture is supported by one DM8168 at the same time? It seems this depends on VPSS capture ports? I want to use a DM8168 to capture as many as possible channels of 1080P raw data.

     (2) How many 1080P channels of raw video data can be encoded by a DM8168 at the same time? Some docs say it can encode 3 channels of 1080P raw data at 60fps, is it true? If yes, does this mean it can also encode 6 channels of 1080P raw data at 30 fps? BTW: I am not care about D1.

    (3) How many 1080P channels of H264 encoded bit stream can be decoded by a DM8168 at the same time?

    (4) I want to connect as many as possible TVs using one DM8168 (HDMI, component, or DVO or VGA is OK for me), and each TV displays different contents, could you tell me the maximum number of TVs can be connected with one DM8168?

    (5) I am considering to construct multiple DM8168s on a PCB board, to enhance the capabilities of one DM8168, what kind of interconnection can be used? For now, I just know such as network, are there some other ways to communicate between multiple DM8168s?  Are there some demo boards on this?

    Thanks in advance

If you use 16-bit interfaces with standard decoders you can capture 2 channels of 1080P60. But if you design FPGA with 8-bit interface and BT656 style input, you can capture 4X1080P30 max.

    You are absolutely true here.

It supports 3X1080P60 encode or decode. So you can do any combination like 3X1080P30 encode and 3X1080P30 decode or any combination.

PCIE is also possible. We dont have reference board but we many other customers have done this.

  • Hi HardikShah,

          Thanks for your reply.

I am searching to buy dev. boards based on DM8168 which captures RAW 1080P data from fpga, Should you know somewhere to buy, please tell me.

And, I am also searching to buy demo boards which clusters multiple DM8168s for many channels of 1080P video encoding & decoding & displaying. Should you know somewhere to buy, please tell me as well.

        Thanks again

I dont think development boards are there with Raw inputs.

There are some development boards with multiple DM8168 and PCIE like

  • Dear HardikShah,

Thank you very much for the information on multi-8168, and I am researching & evaluating whether to buy one.

For my first question on "DM8168 captures RAW 1080P data from fpga", actually, what I want to is to let DM8168 capture standard BT1120 data.

About two monthes ago, we made DM368 IPNC to capture BT1120  data from TVP7002, and the DM368 IPNC can also capture BT1120 data generated from fpga (the fpga captures CMOS data & do some processing on the data & then send to DM368 IPNC via BT1120).

And now I want to make DM8168 can also capture BT1120 data from TVP7002, or  capture BT1120 data generated from fpga.

         Therefore, my question follows:

         (1) Does UDworks DVR board have demos & driver supports on capturing BT1120 data from TVP7002 ?

        (2) Does the TI 8168-EVM board have demos & driver supports on capturing BT1120 data from TVP7002 ?

        (3) If not, as far as you know, are there some other companies provide similar boards for captureing BT1120 data from TVP7002 or from FPGA ?

         Thank you

  • Hi,

Yes, TVP7002 output to VIP is BT1120. As state above its supported on Z3 board as well as IO expansin board. While PCIE is supported on Z3 and Advantech board.

  • Hi HardikShah & John

Thanks for your reply, and I will do some evaluation on the recommended products.

  • hi Hardik,

my board (dm8168evm) is booting fine for both sd card and  tftp, nfs.

but unable to encode, decode and loopback  video.

I have connected the hi focus  pal camera at composite input as shown in below figure.

    i followed the below steps.

    Video initialization

    echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/vpss/graphics0/enabled
    echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/vpss/graphics1/enabled
    echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/vpss/graphics2/enabled

    Capture encode demo

This demo is the capture-encode demo included in the EZSDK. It takes an input video streaming from the component input (case 720p) of the daughter card(marked as J5J6J7) and encodes it in H264, the output is displayed through the HDMI output.

    echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/vpss/display0/enabled
    echo 720p-60 >/sys/devices/platform/vpss/display0/mode
    echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/vpss/display0/enabled
    ./usr/share/ti/ti-omx/capture_encode_a8host_debug.xv5T -o sample.h264 -m 720p -f 60 -b 1000000 -d 0 -n 1000

    Thanks and regards,

    ASIF.
