EMAC configuration to enable Multicast in OMAPL138

Hello all,

We are using an OMAP-L138 processor with Code Composer Studio v5, along with the Starterware drivers and LWIP. We can assign a regualr IP and MAC address fine, and are able to communicate with that. Yet, we are trying to communicate thru the network with a multicast address, but are failing to do so.

We understand, there is some configuration to be done in the EMAC level to be able to have a multicast address network communication and need some guidance there. I looked thru the forum but could not find any posts that gave us some insight.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

I think we need to configure MACHASH1, MACHASH2 and RXMBPENABLE register for multicast.

Please refer the chapter 19.2.15.4 & 19.2.10.1 of OMAPL138 TRM

Yes, you are right. There are MACHASH1 and MACHASH2 registers in the OMAPL138 EMAC documentation which would be used to define hashs for the multicast IP address and allows the EMAC to filter destination multicast addresses. So, I would recommend you to ensure whether the MAC address of received packets are passed into the hash function to see if it matches on the MACHASH1/2 registers or any group MAC addresses (G bit=1, see RFC1469) are passed into the hash function

Did the hardware checks any group/multicast addresses against the hash function?
