AM1808 vs OMAP-L138 pin and software compatible?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM1808, OMAP-L138, OMAPL138

Hi,

I have the following doubts on AM1808 and OMAP-L138.

1)  Are they pin-compatible?

2) Are they software-compatible?

3) I know that AM1808 doesn't have a DSP.  Is it the only difference or are there any major differences between the two?

Yes these are pin compatible devices. Minor exception would be things like NMI pin which is meant for DSP , so does not exist on AM1808 and would be a  RSVD pin.

Yes. The boot, drivers, kernel etc are all software compatible.

AM1808 does not have the DSP, that is indeed the only major difference.

  • Hi Mukul,

    Thanks for the clarification.

Can you please clarify the following:

If in my design, I have an OMAP-L138 and if I don't want to use the DSP of it, then can I replace the OMAP-L138 with AM1808?

    - Suma

  • Yes, it is certainly feasible and intended to be that way. It has been done by customers before. If you have any additional concerns or want your OMAPL138 schematics to be reviewed to ensure that it is ok to drop in replace AM1808, please contact your local TI field/sales office for additional review.

  • wanna make sure, if I need DSP, I could upgrade 1808 to L138 without changing anything ? could ignore the different pin you mentioned above?

    thanks.
