Connect to C6713 board boot from Flash

We have a board with c6713  and  a Flash memory  AMD Am29LV400B (now is Spansion F29AL016J70).

The configuration is boot from Flash.

When a new boards comes from assembly  and we try to connect to the board for burning the our software to the Flash

sometimes the connect is not success and we need to try a lot of power off and power on and reconnect

till it success.

When the Flash is burned  with our software the connect is success the first time.

Is there a way to success with the first connect after the board come from the assembly?

  • we had this issue as well. i think it was solved by writing some initial code into the flash by through jtag (not the blackhawk)

  • Alex,

When there is no valid code written in the boot Flash memory, you will need to use the Emulation Boot mode for the best reliability of controlling the device with the emulator. If you use pull-up resistors for the BOOTMODE pins, then you may be able to make a test fixture that will apply a stronger pull-down for the boot mode selection when programming the boards the first time.

    To 1768011,

Why do you make the comment "not the blackhawk"? The BlackHawk emulators have been very good and reliable, in my experience. They would be one brand of several that would be good to use for this purpose, so I would like to understand the reason your statement.

  • Hi  RandyP,

    Thank's for your help.

We configure the device BOOTMODE  to Emulation boot ( HD[4:3] = 00 ) and then we could always connet to device.

Let me explain this: we use the blackhawk as an emulator for Ti DSPs, but we don't use it to write the initial boot code to the flash-chip.

  • 1768011,

Thank you for the explanation. I understand now.
