We're woking on a custom board that uses the AM4378 processor. I am trying to understand how the GUI is loaded to the display. We are using QT to make a GUI of our own, and was wondering how we can load our GUI to the kernel instead of the default,

I am new to developing embedded linux software, so any help on this would be appreciated.

Hello Sandesh,

The Matrix GUI is loaded by this line at etc/init.d/matrix-gui-2.0

start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --background -m --pidfile $PIDFILE --exec $matrixgui -- $GUI_OPTS

You can modify matrix-gui-2.0 startup script to load your custom GUI instead of Matrix GUI.

Thank you Kemal, I can load my GUI to the board on startup now. I was wondering if there is a way to do this in the source code, so that everytime I build the image, it loads the custom GUI. Currently, I am booting the board with a microSD card that has the image.

You can edit the startup script within the rootfs, with which you are flashing the board.

Could you explain that further? what files in the kernel source code would I need to modify?

You should modify the etc/init.d/matrix-gui-2.0 within <Processor SDK>/filesystem/tisdk-rootfs-image-am335x-evm.tar.xz rootfs.

I did that in the kernel, and got it to work. I was just wondering if it is possible to do it in the kernel source code, then compile and install it in the processor.
