LMG3422EVM-041: LMG3422R030RQZT

Tool/software:

Dear team ,

am currently using the LMG3422R030 GaN device in a three-phase, two-level inverter configuration. For gate driver power, I am employing a single non isolated DC-DC converter rated at 5A to supply all six switches. Additionally, the same power supply is used to power some analog circuitry.

Upon reviewing the datasheet, I observed that the maximum input current for each gate driver FET is approximately 1A. Given this, I would like to confirm whether a single 5A-rated converter is sufficient to reliably power all six gate drivers and the analog circuitry.

Could you please advise will this work .

Thanks and Best regards,

B Raja Sekhar

  • Hi Bagadi,

Please provide the following information so that I can answer your concern.

Please share the isolated DC-DC stage part number you are considering.

Also, please clarify which datasheet parameter you are referring here in the statement - "Upon reviewing the datasheet, I observed that the maximum input current for each gate driver FET is approximately 1A".

    Thanks,

    Subhransu

  • Dear subhransu thank you for your response,

I have selected the LMZ12003TZ-ADJ/NOPB DC-DC converter to generate 5 V from a 12 V supply. This converter supports a maximum output current of 3 A. At present, this is the only power supply I am planning to use for the entire system, which includes the six GaN switches (LMG3422R030) in the 3-phase inverter, their associated gate driver circuitry, and some additional analog components.

While the converter meets the basic voltage and current requirements, I am uncertain if it will be sufficient to handle the combined load during peak operation. I would appreciate your input on whether this choice is appropriate or if it would be more reliable to select a higher current-rated device. also nowhere in the datasheet it mentioned how much gate current is required.please suggest.

    thanks and best regards,

  • Hi Bagadi,

The bias supply for a daughter card half-bridge unit (LMG342XEVM) on motherboard (LMG342x-BB-EVM) draws < ~150mA.  So based on that 3A output at 12V supply should be enough to meet the power requirement.

    Thanks,

    Subhransu
