Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN75C185,
Wondering if GD65232 can be used as a replacement for SN75C185.
It looks like GD65232 needs external bus capacitance for loading...? What happens if this is not added...?

Darren,
I believe this was addressed through email, but to reiterate:
The communication should be fine as long as the receiver works with fast slew rate. Here is an app note about the slew rate, data rate and Cl.

Hi Eric,
I did see the email, thank you.
For this particular application, they cannot specify what the Receiver IC will be (end customers will have their own device), so they need the driver to fulfill the RS232C specification, which states the MAX slew rate is 30V/us.
Given that, and the chance for different cable lengths and receivers, they would need the bus caps to make sure under full conditions, that 30V/us is met.
Thanks for the material though, it helped.
Regards,
Darren
