TUSB8041: Can this be a drop-in replacement for TUSB4041?

Part Number: TUSB8041

I'm working in a Production environment with a board design that calls for a TUSB4041.  That IC can't be found due to the global chip shortage.  Can the TUSB8041 be used as a drop-in replacement?

The pinouts appear to be the same. The design is USB 2.0 so it doesn't require SuperSpeed lines - those are all No Connected on the board design.

The only pins I'm not sure about are:

Pin 7 - this is SMBUSz on the 4041, and it's SMBUSz/SS_SUSPEND on the 8041. The pin is left floating in the board design.   Will that cause a problem with the 8041?

Pin 8 - this is FULLPWRMGMTz/SMBA1 on the 4041, and it's FULLPWRMGMTz/SMBA1/SS_UP on the 8041.  The pin is left floating in the board design. Will that cause a problem with the 8041?

Thank you.

  • Hi Matt,

The SS_SUSPEND and SS_UP features are only status outputs and won't impact the device functionality.

SMBUSz will default to internal pullup (I2C mode)

FULLPWRMGMTz will default to internal pulldown (power managed mode)

Please note that only the TUSB8041-Q1 comes in the PAP package, the regular TUSB8041 is RGC package.
