TCA9511A: TCA9511A difference over TCA9411A

Part Number: TCA9511A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA4307, TCA4311A

Hi team,

Customer want to use TCA9511A p2p replace TCA9411A, and want to check with us about the spec difference of those two part, could you help if those two part could be p2p replace and the spec difference?

Thanks and Best Regards,

Will

  • A device called "TCA9411A" does not exist.

The TCA4307 has stuck bus recovery.

  • Hi Clemens,

Sorry, I mean TCA4311A. What's the main spec difference between TCA9511A and TCA4311A? Could it be p2p replace?

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    Will

  • Will,

The Dynamic offset of the TCA9511A is lower (better), 9511A supports wider Vcc range, 9511A fixes the missing ACK event that TCA4311A has, TCA9511A is also made using newer process technology, and TCA9511A supports a higher temperature. Overall TCA9511A is better; the major advantage to 4311A is the ESD rating.

Yes, we made TCA9511A to be a replacement to TCA4311A.

  • Hi Bobby,

    Get it. Thanks.

One more question about TCA9511A, what's the VIL for SDA/SCL? Only find the EN VIL spec in datasheet, can't find it for SDA/SCL.

TCA4311A get the following VIL spec in datasheet.

    Best Regards,

    Will

  • The 4311A and 9511A use a similar mechanism to pass lows (they are dynamic offset buffers). Both devices want the input low to be below 0.6V such that the offset voltage doesn't reside above 0.6V.

This is hinted at in the TCA4311A datasheet in section 8.3.1 on page 9: "During positive bus transitions, the TCA4311A switches in 2 mA (typical) of current to quickly slew the SDA and SCL lines once their DC voltages exceed 0.6 V."

The rise time mechanisms require a rising signal from below 0.6V to above it to check off the first prerequisite to trigger the rise time accelerators. (second prerequisite is the slew rate).
