SN65LVDM051: 100ohm Characteristic Impedance

Part Number: SN65LVDM051

Hi Team,

My customer is using SN65LVDM051 as LVDS signal transceiver, schematic as below. And they want to know what will happen without 100ohm characteristic impedance at receiver side? In real test they found that VID at receiver is ~3.3V, much larger than normal LVDS signal. Thanks.

Best Regards,

Livia

LVDS uses a constant current mode driver to obtain its many features. The transmission media must be terminated to its characteristic impedance to prevent reflections. Typically this is between 100Ω–120Ω and is matched to the actual cable impedance. A termination resistor is required to generate the Differential Output Voltage (VOD) across the resistive termination load at the receiver input.

    Thanks
