TPD4S014: USB-C Protection

Part Number: TPD4S014

Hi Team,

We would like to ask your help regarding our customer's inquiry below.

I am designing a USB-C 5V UFP (power sink) interface on my PCB. I know that 5.1K resistors on CC will allow this mode to activate. However, I am unsure how much protection circuitry is required (for example if I need to design a circuit that turns things off if VBUS goes to 20V because USB-C could go there if the host malfunctions). I also want to protect against ESD/high voltage transients.

Questions:

1. Is designing for the 20V case required?

2. Does the TPD4S014 handle this?

3. Since the TPD4S014 is out of stock, is there another replacement part?

4. Are protections against shorting needed - like VBUS and ground short?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

    1. For VBUS, it can protect the OVP up to 28V. It doesn't include the OVP protection for CC pin.

    3. Please check TPD3S716 and TPD3S713 and TPD2S703.

    4. It has short to GND protection.
