TPD1S414: Any part p2p with TPD1S414

Part Number: TPD1S414
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25810

Hi,

Customer is using TPS25810+TPD1S414 based on the APN : (https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slvae35) for their type-c port

From TPD1S414, we see VOVP_RISING is in the range from 6 to 6.4V which is too high for their application with TPS25810 input rail OVP rated from 5.75V to 6.25V.

So, our question is is there a TPD1S414 equivalent part with max OVP threshold below 5.75V?  What is our best part for this requirement?

Thanks,

Antony

  • HI Antony,

There is no p2p device for that.

By the way, TPS25810 ABS of input pin max is 6.5V. What's 6.25V?

  • Hi Ziv,

This scenario is not about the PS25810 ABS of input pin.  Normally, the input of TPS25810 is supplied by a buck DC/DC on customer system.  There's an over voltage protection feature @ the output of this buck.  When this voltage level is above the OVP threshold defined by the buck, the buck would be turned off.

Now with TPD1S414 connected with TPS25810 and the specific buck chosen by customer, we may encounter the situation that buck OVP is triggered before TPD1S414 reach the OVP level.  Therefore we would see the buck is turned off.  Normally this 5V rail from buck supply many circuits on the system, and this would cause a system shutdown.  Therefore, I'm asking if there's a TPD device with lower OVP threshold so that the TPD device OVP is triggered earlier and the buck OVP shall not be triggered.

    Thanks,

    Antony

  • Hi Antony,

    Please check TPD1S514-1.

  • Hi Ziv,

The OVP threshold of TPD5S414-1 is in the range from 5.9V to 5.99V which is the same TPD5S414.  Since 5.9V is still higher than the Vovp_min of the buck @ 5.75V, it does not 100% meet customer need.  But, this is the best part from our side for this scenario, right?

    Thanks,

    Antony

  • Hi Antony,

I think that's the best part from our side.
