DP83630: DP83630

Part Number: DP83630
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83869

Hi,

We are trying to use DP83630 PHY to design copper SFP, as per block diagram shown below

on DP83630 for above circuit is how to interface clock signals (especially TXCLK and TXEN signals). Can we use it in single clock MII mode? Could you please confirm with your technical team if the PHY we have chosen is suitable for copper SFP module we want to design? Also do you have any implementation examples for SFP module using this PHY?

Thanks,

Anu

  • Hi Anu,

The DP83630 cannot be used with an SFP module since it does not support SGMII. The traditional SFP connector has only 1 transmit data pair and 1 receive data pair (pictured below), so this is only compatible with SGMII since MII, Single Clock MII, and RGMII all require additional wires.

However, it would be possible to accomplish this with the DP83867 or DP83869 which both support SGMII. Let us know if you have additional questions.

    Thanks,

    David Creger
