Hi team,

My customer would like to know what is its endurance time if VBUS voltage is above 58V (this is ABS max voltage rating)

Do we have this kind of data?

The absolute maximum ratings must not be exceeded, not even for a short time.

(ESD tolerance is according to the respective specifications.)

Hi Paul,

Just to confirm what Clemens said, exceeding the absolute maximum ratings of any device for any time at all can damage the device.

For CAN if you know your device will be in an environment where it might get a short surge of voltage, customers typically protect the CAN bus using a TVS diodes. TVS diodes are made to clamp a short transient voltage so that it does not exceed the absolute maximum rating of the device. However, if your transients are longer than what the TVS diode is rated to clamp the TVS diode can fail and the CAN device might see the full voltage at it's CANH and CANL pins.

Hi Paul,

Keep in mind that the 'H' versions of this device have an absolute maximum bus rating of ±70V. These devices can withstand voltages that exceed ±58V indefinitely, as long as the ±70V limit is respected.
