TCA9511A: TCA9511A used in GPIO application

Dear team,

We have I2C and lower speed signal(like wake, PERST, CLK request) in our application, and need hot swap function for this signal.

Can we use TCA9511A on both I2C and lower speed signal?

If not, could you recommend hot swap IC for low speed signal?

Yes.

I²C buffers are designed for bidirectional open-drain signals. If you have a unidirectional push/pull signal, the output of the buffer still needs a pull-up resistor.

Hi Ben,

As Clemen's pointed out, TCA9511A can be used for GPIOs though you would need external pull-ups on the other side to guarantee a high signal is generated.

It discusses how the TCA9511A supports hotswap (such as leaving the inside of the device depopulated and having the backplane carry the pull-ups to make use of the 1V precharge circuit).

Customer would like to double confirm if TCA9511A is suitable in UART application.

In my opinion, it's ok.

Yes, it will work, if you don't forget the pull-up resistors.
