DS92LV2411: How to extend the communication distance between boards

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS92LV2412,

Hi,

DS92LV2411 and DS92LV2412 are used to communicate between the main board and the sub board.

Currently, communication is possible when the distance between the boards is about 500 mm.

However, communication cannot be performed at a distance longer than that.

Is there any way to extend the communication distance?  If using another IC improves the communication distance, please let me know.

Thanks,

Astro

  • Hello Astro,

There is no specific cable length limit in these devices. As long as the receiver at the end of the cable is able to properly recover the sent signal without bit errors and the input signal satisfies the minimum signal threshold requirements for LVDS, then the cable length will be okay.

General recommendation is to make sure to follow the datasheet's layout guidelines to minimize factors on the PCB that could contribute to bit errors.

Another method I see from looking at the device datasheets is to use STP cable and set VODSEL to HIGH, which will help in a longer cable situation. Is your team using a COAX or STP cable in the system?

    Best,
