SN65HVD101: SN65HVD102 replace with the SN65HVD101 - LDO floating

Part Number: SN65HVD101
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD102,

Hello Team,

the customer would like to replace the SN65HVD102  with the SN65HVD101 due to better internal availability.

  • The LDO output would remain floating.

Is this a problem?

Considering that in the datasheet is is written that the LDO powers also the PHY, I'm assuming that we should be fine in leaving the LDO output of the SN65HVD101  floating.

Thanks,

SunSet

  • Hello Sunset,

Pin 7 of the SN65HVD102 is the Voltage Input from the external supply, but it is the Voltage Sense Feedback needed by the LDO in the SN65HVD101 and needs to be connected to Pin 8 either directly or through a resistor.

It is OK to not use the VCCOUT of the SN65HVD101 to supply external circuitry, but for stability of the LDO, Pins 7 and 8 need to be connected together.  If the customer's application does not have these pins connected on their board, then they would need to do so before they could use the SN65HVD101 instead of the SN65HVD102.  Because Pin 8 is a No Connect on the SN65HVD102, it is common for this connection to be made so that either device type could be used in the assembly.  However, this would need to be verified first.

    Regards,

    Jonathan
