if the TLK2711 is used only as TX, is the power-on reset sequence described in 8.3.20 of the datasheet still needed?

Hi Silvia,

Yes, please follow the power-on reset sequence described in 8.3.20 of the datasheet, even if TLK2711 is used as TX only. Note that 8.3.20 contains specific instructions for TX only applications.
