ESD2CANFD24: Understanding about working voltage

Hi,

In the datasheet of ESD2CANFD24, it says the working voltage is 24V. does that mean it can only work on the 24V CAN system? if there is a 5V/12V CAN system is it a proper device?

This device will protect against voltages above 24 V.

If you have a 12 V system, and you get a transient with 20 V, your transceivers will see the full 20 V. (In general, transceivers will be able to handle this.)

Hi Manu,

I'd recommend viewing our ESD Fundamentals, specifically the post on reverse working voltage and polarity configuration.

ESD2CAN24 can be used to protect a 5V/12V CAN signal as long as the clamping voltage is low enough to avoid damaging the transceiver.

The working voltage needs to be at least 12 V to avoid errors on data lines, in this case the signals are below the working voltage (24 V) which is not an issue.
