We are using the TMS320F280025C launchpad with the 8770EVM gate driver to build a multilevel output, however the CAN tranceiver does not appear to be isolated. I was wondering if there was a good external isolator that we could use. Ideally something I could hook up to a breadboard

Thanks for bringing this to E2E. TI has a team dedicated to Isolation devices, so I will be looping them in here. Also, there are isolation devices with CAN transceivers integrated, but these are 5V devices only, not 3.3V. I just wanted to let you know in case there is a time when you'll need 5V CAN with isolation.

Hi Joshua,

As Eric mentioned, we have digital isolators (like ISO6721) that can be paired with CAN transceivers (like SN65HVD234) to achieve CAN isolation. But if you are looking for a single chip solution then we have ISO1042, ISO1044 and ISOW1044 (with integrated DC/DC converter) that integrate digital isolation and CAN transceiver in a single chip but these devices only support 5V on the CAN bus side and not 3.3V.

If 5V is also okay for your application then you can consider any of the above solutions. But if you require 3.3V on the CAN bus, then you can pair digital isolator with 3.3V CAN transceiver.

We have evaluation modules for all isolation devices stated above and they are listed on their respective product folder. You can use the evaluation module to evaluate device for your application requirements. I am also sharing below a few documents that could be useful for you. Thanks.
