THVD1406: THVD1406DR

Part Number: THVD1406

TI support hello

i am working with the THVD1406DR and have a question.

first when i look at SN65HVD7 data sheet I can see that: DE pin enable the D pin and RE enable the R pin.

not clear (THVD1406DR) how I can operate the transceiver and receiver ( not at the same time) when SHDN control both function.

can you assist?

Yehoram

  • This is designed for protocols like UART where the signal is high when idle.

When there is some activity (low level) on the D signal, the transceiver is in transmit mode. Some time after D has gone idle, the transceiver switches back into receive mode.

  • Hi Yehoram,

Please see functional description from datasheet below:

This device is auto-direction control RS-485 device - which means that the direction of data transfer is controlled by the state of the "D" pin when /SHDN and /RE are both tied to high logic levels. The logic is shown above in the truth tables - this type of part is meant for UART like applications where we have a fixed frame length to help reduce GPIO usage by having the datastream control whether or not the device is in TX or RX mode. If you want a standard RS-485 - most devices don't have auto-control and I wouldn't suggest this device.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Best,

    Parker Dodson
