SN75LVDS82: Display issue

Part Number: SN75LVDS82

Hi team,

My customer uses SN75LVDS82DGG to design. DVT assembly 15 set but only 2 pcs will have some issues as below.

When we use a heat gun to blow to SN75LVDS82DGG for about 3~5 seconds, the LCD display is normal (no red stripes).

When the heat gun is removed, after a few seconds, the LCD slowly returns to red stripes.

Could you give some suggestions? thanks

  • Hello Jimmy,

TI does not recommend the use of a heat gun for the purpose of temperature testing for a few reasons:

    - Heat gun will heat surrounding components instead of just the DUT, which prevents the test from being able to isolate the DUT if needed

    - Heat gun can easily stress the device local temperature beyond the recommended operating conditions due to the focused nature of extreme heat

    - It is difficult to accurately control/measure what the ambient temperature being applied to the device is with a heat gun

    - Heat gun or cold spray can stress the PCB/solder and cause continuity issues which are unrelated to the device performance under correct board soldering conditions

We recommend to use a thermal stream or dedicated temp chamber approach for temperature testing to evaluate temp performance. For this particular issue, we also recommend to isolate what specifically has led to the conclusion that SN75LVDS82 is not performing to spec first. (What specific output signal of the device is not meeting spec)?

    Best Regards,

    Casey

  • Hi Casey,

But only use a heat gun to blow IC that will let display is normal. Do you have some way to clarify the problem? thx

  • Hello Jimmy,

Please focus on probing the signal output from SN75LVDS82 and let us know exactly what signal is not behaving within spec. Please make sure to perform this test under a controlled temp condition where we can understand exactly what ambient temp the IC see (temp chamber or thermal stream approach)

    Best Regards,

    Casey

  • Hi Casey,

The customer changed CLKIN fsw from 10MHz to 20MHz. the LCD display is normal.

What is the reason for this?

  • Jimmy,

The SN75LVDS82 supports a PCLK range from 31-68MHz only. So actually both 10 or 10MHz are no supported PCLK rates. When the device is operated outside of the datasheet recommended operating conditions we are unable to guarantee performance. That may be related to the issues you were seeing at different temperatures so we would recommend to ensure to use the device within the datasheet limits:

    Best Regards,

    Casey
