TUSB8044A: TUSB8044A

Part Number: TUSB8044A

Hello, so I am trying to make a USB-C using the above chip. My questions are

  1. can I add ethernet to this hub and what chips are recommended.
  2. Does the hub require any sort of programming to work.
  3. Can I get hdmi video data out of the display port using a converter chip?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

  • Hello:

1: I did saw some customer added ethernet device to TI hub, but I can't remember the name of ethernet device.

2: TI hub can work with any USB host in Windows or Linux system without any software or firmware support.

3: There are should be some device on the market  to convert DP to HDMI . We have device to convert DP++ to HDMI, like TDP159 but not from DP to HDMI,

  • Hi,

For the 2nd question, you would need OTP ROM, Serial EEPROM or I 2C/SMBus slave interface for custom configurations if you want to:

    • Change VID and PID
    • Port customizations
    • Manufacturer and product strings (not by OTP ROM)
    • Serial number (not by OTP ROM)

Otherwise as Brian said, you don't need any configuration for the hub to work.

For DP to HDMI, you would need an active protocol converter. One possible solution is MCDP5200, https://www.kinet-ic.com/mcdp5200/.

    Thanks
